On Saturday November 10, 2018 I attended the unveiling of the monument dedicated to Veterans of the Gulf War/War on terror. I feel a huge sense of pride being from Rockland County and have always loved this community. This impressive monument beams with respect and remembrance of our loved ones who have given the ultimate sacrifice. A huge thank you to Howard Goldin and the design committee for your time and dedication on this beautiful memorial.
Another huge moment over the weekend was walking the flag on the field at the Jets/Bills game with my best friend Finny, my husband Arash and my daughter Kayla. It was a feeling I will never forget. As my husband stated “bringing Kayla to her first game and experiencing this as a family was incredible. I’m carrying Kayla on one arm and holding onto the flag in my other hand. I look around at the soldiers around me. These people are true warriors. I looked behind me and see all the Jets players linked arm in arm as we hear the national anthem. I felt a huge sense of patriotism.” Those were my feelings exactly. I’m proud to be an American and appreciate the love and pride that flooded the stadium. Thank you to Steve Castelton and Raul Lopez for giving us the opportunity to experience that.
And lastly thank you to the men and women who have served and are still serving. We live in the land of the free because of your bravery. It is something I will never take for granted. Happy belated Veterans day!
